The region we know today as Isanti County was originally settled by lumberjacks from New England, migrating westward with their families in search of fresh trees to harvest.

Developmental Disabilities

The Isanti County Aging and Disabilities Unit provides case management services for persons with developmental disabilities and related conditions.  The case manager assists the person to gain access to needed supports and services.

What is a Developmental Disability?

A developmental disability is a diagnosis marked by the following conditions that occur before a person reaches 22 years of age:

  • Substantial limitations in functioning
  • Significantly below-average intellectual functioning (IQ of 70 or below)
  • Demonstrated deficits in adaptive behavior.

What is a Related Condition?

A related condition is a diagnosis closely related to developmental disabilities.  A person with a related condition needs services similar to persons with developmental disability.  Related conditions result in limited self-care, understanding and use of language, learning, mobility, self-direction, and capacity for independent living.  Mental health disorders are not related conditions.  Some examples of related conditions are Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, Prader-Willi Syndrome, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and Autism.
